Hirst House

Hirst House

5 crisis stabilization beds

Hirst House is a resource provided by Parksville -Qualicum Mental Health Services and Alcohol and Drug Services.

This facility is managed by staff from the Island Crisis Care Society in order to provide safe and secure accommodation for those referred to the house who require crisis or transitional housing.

The purpose of Hirst House is to reduce the number of hospital stays by individuals who, up to this time, have had to use the Psychiatric resources of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital to facilitate their needs.

Admission to Hirst House is by referral from Mental Health or Alcohol and Drug Services staff.

The house is staffed 24/7 to ensure the safety and security of each person. Residents have their own private room and enjoy home cooked meals.

Case managers from the resident's admitting agency ensure that all professional resources necessary are made available to each resident.

Hirst House is modeled on the successful Crescent House operation that has been in effect in Nanaimo since June 2001.
